Jacqui was born in Cheshire and after many moves around the country settled in Hastings six years ago. She has studied at Hastings College of Art for the past four years. She classes her ceramics as sculptures in fine art form ‘because it serves nothing but itself and has little asked of it, but that it exists.’ She describes her work as primitive or naïve; not academic in the sense of absorbing an influence or tradition, though the influence of surrealism may be detected. She works by feeling and instinct, discovering forms that express intangible human emotions. Each piece is hand crafted and goes through several firings as the successive layers of mixed glazes are applied. Her exhibitions include: Hastings Pier, Bourne Hall, and Rock-a-Nore Gallery Hastings Her work is also in several private collections. "I use mainly terracotta clays but incorporate other clays for example paper clay and occasionally slip cast and mixed media. The glazing is also unique as the glazes are all mixed in small quantities so that every part is quite different. Each piece is hand glazed and can be fired up to six times. The heads can never be duplicated in any way." Contact Jacqui by phone on 01424 443638 or email her HERE
